South Yorkshire Fencing are currently working towards getting fencing into a large number of schools in the county. The project is a part of the British Fencing minifence programme which is in partnership with DH and DCMS through Change4Life.

As this will represent a massive influx into fencing over the 2010/11 season, and beyond, we are looking at local clubs and building capacity as well as working with clubs to align their training with the LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) model which has been identified by Sport Scientists and BF.

This work will obviously take up a lot of time and resources, and will be the main thrust of SYF. We will be supporting the schools with their MiniFence programmes and also some hub after school clubs.

We are also planning the legacy for the 2011 European Championships at the EISS. This will involve a number of the schools taking the fencing option in the Change4Life, as well as some schools who haven't opted for fencing.
